Encounters in the Neighborhood

The initiative “Encounters in the Neighborhood” by the Evangelical Foundation Alsterdorf sustainably promotes neighborly coexistence in Hamburg residential districts. With low-threshold meeting points and open encounter spaces, an inclusive network is created that brings people together and unites sectors such as social affairs, democracy promotion, sports, work, as well as culture and media. Neighborhood managers actively contribute within the framework of the “Q8 Moving Neighborhoods” program to strengthening local cooperation and help establish a structurally and technically barrier-free infrastructure. At the same time, an advisory service provides individual support, especially for people with mental illnesses or in challenging life situations. Professional exchange and networking form the basis for linking diverse potentials within the neighborhood and promoting democratic engagement.

The funding is aimed at all residents of a Hamburg neighborhood or those belonging to a foundation-managed neighborhood. Applications can be submitted continuously, allowing private households to benefit promptly from non-material support, networking, and professional exchange. The only prerequisite for funding is residence in Hamburg or affiliation with one of the supported neighborhoods. Through participation funding, projects and initiatives that advance social cohesion and embody inclusive neighborhood development are strengthened.
