Description

The Subsidies for Broadband Expansion program of the Lower Austria Economic and Tourism Fund supports municipalities, municipal associations, and their commercial enterprises in the implementation of a comprehensive FTTH network in Lower Austria. The goal is to fully finance and reduce funding gaps in rural cadastral municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants that have already received federal funding under the “Broadband Austria 2030: OpenNet” initiative. Eligible costs include investment expenses for fiber optic expansion, civil engineering work, and material costs for cables. An independent jury evaluates project applications based on market demand, technological intensity, and feasibility to ensure a sustainable and future-proof infrastructure.

Up to 25% of eligible costs can be applied for as a grant, whereby the combined funding amount from federal and state sources must not exceed 90% of the total investment. A minimum co-financing of €2,000 per connected household is required. Applications are possible until December 31, 2026. The funding instrument is aimed at all public entities and commercial units that actively contribute to improving digital connectivity in peripheral regions. Interested applicants can submit the necessary documents – application and proof of federal funding approval – within the deadline and thus contribute to the digital development of Lower Austria.
