Description
The Berlin Soundproof Window Program supports owners, leaseholders, and usufructuaries of residential buildings in Berlin in implementing passive soundproofing measures along heavily trafficked main roads and above-ground BVG rail routes. Funding is provided for the professional installation of sound-insulated windows, balcony and terrace doors, roller shutter boxes, as well as ventilation systems in accordance with the RAL guideline and VDI Directive 2719 (soundproofing class 4 or optionally class 5). The acoustic refurbishment of typical Berlin wooden box double windows is also eligible for funding. Applicants may be natural or legal persons under private law, whereby the measures must concern rooms built before October 3, 1990, with a minimum area of 10 m². Noise exposure from federal highways or railway programs must not already be covered by other funding instruments. A funding inquiry is required before the start of measures; the actual application is submitted to the Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer Protection, and Climate Protection.
Funding is provided in the form of a grant covering up to 90% of recognized expenses, with a maximum limit of €15,000 per dwelling. Funding rates are €400/m² (SK 4) or €500/m² (SK 5) for windows and doors, €500/m² for wooden box refurbishment, and a flat rate of €250 per room for ventilation systems. Applicants must submit, among other documents, floor plans and elevation drawings, cost estimates from specialist companies, a valid test certificate according to DIN EN ISO 10140/ISO 717-1, and, if applicable, the consent of the homeowners’ association or heritage protection documents. As funds for 2024/2025 have already been exhausted, the funding will be re-announced annually.
