Blood Sample Collection Campaign (Research Support) of the COSMO Art & Science Foundation

The blood sample collection campaign by the COSMO Art & Science Foundation invites private individuals nationwide to contribute to the research of hereditary eye diseases in dogs. By sending in a single blood sample of their four-legged companions, dog owners and breeders support the scientific investigation of distichiasis, cataract, and PRA. The goal is to establish and utilize a comprehensive DNA bank to identify molecular genetic markers and deepen the understanding of these diseases. All samples are treated anonymously, ensuring the confidentiality of both the animal and the owner. Upon completion of the research, participants may receive information about the results upon request, to derive best practices for breeding and animal health.

Participation is continuously possible and straightforward: in addition to the blood sample, a fully completed submission form and – if the sample is taken on-site – a signed liability waiver are required. The submission form includes information about the animal’s health status and its lineage. Sample collection can be done independently or by the mobile team, which performs professional sampling during home visits. Through this participation support, the COSMO Art & Science Foundation makes a sustainable contribution to animal welfare and innovative research projects in veterinary medicine and genetics. The campaign is specifically aimed at all those who wish to actively contribute to improving the quality of life for future generations of dogs.
