Description
Boosting Circularity and Diversification Strategies in Terrestrial Livestock Systems supports EU-wide research projects aimed at developing novel approaches for resource-efficient animal production. Funding is provided to consortia consisting of at least three independent legal entities from different EU Member States or Associated Countries, pursuing a multi-actor approach. Eligible participants include companies, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and educational establishments, with a focus on farmers, rural communities, and actors along the value chain of animal agricultural products. The projects are intended to test and validate the integration of various animal species as well as the use of agricultural residues and by-products within closed loops. Core objectives include the reduction of environmental and climate impacts, strengthening biodiversity, minimizing waste, and enhancing resilience in agricultural enterprises and regions. Monitoring and management tools as well as socio-economic analyses will be developed, and evidence-based recommendations for policy and practice will be derived. The maximum funding amount is €6 million per project with a funding rate of 100%. Research and educational institutions are also eligible to apply, including personnel costs, consumables, travel, and workshop expenses in their budgets.
The submission deadline is 14 April 2026. Only projects meeting the criteria of excellence, impact, implementation, and efficiency will be funded. Retroactive costs, commercial production volumes, or debt repayment are not eligible. Applications must be submitted exclusively via the EU Funding & Tenders Portal. Required documents include the application form, a dissemination and exploitation plan, the market consultation report, and the call documents. Selection is conducted through peer review, followed by contract negotiations with the European Commission. The goal is to implement circular economy strategies in livestock farming to establish sustainable and innovative production models across Europe in the long term.
