Description

German Language Skills and Language Mediation for Refugees and Other People with a Migration Background in Baden-Württemberg (VwV German) is aimed at urban and rural districts in Baden-Württemberg that, together with independent providers, offer certificate-oriented German courses, low-threshold language programs, accompanying coaching, and language mediation. The goal is the sustainable promotion of linguistic integration for refugees and people with a migration background who do not have access to BAMF courses. Public institutions receive financial support as a grant for curriculum-structured literacy, basic, and advanced courses up to level C1 (CEFR), specific course formats for part-time or work-accompanying offers, as well as for additional measures such as language cafés, women's language meetings, and supplementary qualifications for teachers.

For successful funding, applicants must utilize existing or newly established networks to coordinate language promotion and comply with the standards of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees. The low-threshold courses are generally designed for at least six months (usually twelve months) and take place two days per week with at least two teaching units each day. Accompanying coaching for language courses is offered with three teaching units weekly for small groups of four to six participants. Furthermore, municipalities are responsible for organizing a pool of qualified language mediators, including their selection and deployment coordination. Applications can be submitted continuously to the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration Baden-Württemberg. Municipalities thus benefit from tailored funding measures that contribute to strengthening social participation.
