Description

The annually awarded Dissertation Prize for Migration Research by the Austrian Academy of Sciences honors outstanding doctoral theses in the field of flight, migration, and social integration processes at Austrian universities. Eligible applicants are doctoral candidates of all nationalities whose dissertation is situated within the social sciences, humanities, or legal sciences and addresses the integration of migrants or societal changes resulting from migration. The start of studies must not be more than three years prior to the deadline. An international peer-review selection committee of the Philosophical-Historical Class selects the awardees based on the scientific contribution and the clarity of their independent research contribution. Submissions are accepted annually until April 15.

One dissertation is awarded a funding amount of 4,000 euros. The application must include a curriculum vitae, a project description (3,000–5,000 words including references), a supervision confirmation with a letter of recommendation from the supervisors, and an abstract (300–500 words). The documents may be submitted in either German or English. The award is granted following verification of completeness and substantive evaluation by the international peer-review committee. The prize aims to recognize outstanding research achievements and promote innovative insights in migration research. The Austrian Academy of Sciences thus provides a prestigious framework to highlight excellent dissertations and sustainably support academic careers.
