Description

The European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (GFCNI) promotes international knowledge transfer in neonatology through its Education & Training partnerships. In collaboration with universities, professional societies, and industry partners, GFCNI develops and implements continuing education and training programs, digital training formats, workshops, and congresses. Through the GFCNI Academy, evidence-based materials such as factsheets on topics like thermoregulation, parenteral and enteral nutrition, resuscitation, and RSV infections are freely available in multiple languages. These resources are aimed at neonatologists, pediatricians, neonatal nursing professionals, and nutrition experts in clinical and research settings. Ongoing funding opportunities in the form of Educational Grants enable educational institutions, non-profit organizations, companies, and public institutions within the EU to cover personnel expenses, material costs, and travel expenses. GFCNI relies on collaboration with scientific advisory boards, expert networks, and public health authorities to continuously develop the quality, evidence base, and reach of its programs.

For application, a project description, a cooperation agreement with at least one university or professional society, as well as proof of an evidence-based curriculum and organizational capacity are required. Applications can be submitted at any time and are evaluated based on the criteria of quality of teaching content, evidence base, experience of partners, and program reach. The goal is to improve the care of preterm and newborn infants worldwide and to establish sustainable training structures. The GFCNI Academy also offers models for train-the-trainer, peer-to-peer exchange, and international conferences such as the Joint European Neonatal Societies (jENS) Congress to connect professionals in neonatology and provide continuing education opportunities ranging from early-career level to senior expertise.
