Description

The EAFRD program "Rural Transport Infrastructure" supports road construction investments throughout Austria – from Burgenland to Vorarlberg and also in Vienna – for the external development of agricultural and forestry areas. Funding is provided for new construction, reconstruction, and major renovation of access roads, as well as complementary ecological compensation measures in the immediate vicinity. With an annual budget of €28 million, the measure contributes to the sustainable development of rural areas by securing vital transport connections and strengthening agriculture in terms of efficiency and resource conservation. The continuous submission possibility until the end of 2027 ensures flexible project planning without deadline pressure.

Eligible for funding are operators of agricultural enterprises as well as natural and legal persons or partnerships, and in exceptional cases, municipalities and their associations. The grant rate ranges from 50% to 65% depending on the region, and up to 70% for implementation as track roads. Application requirements include, among others, technical suitability and the submission of official permits, compliance with road system guidelines and regulations (RVS), as well as financial viability. Evaluation criteria include specific needs (e.g., urgency), integrated site development (broad benefit and multiple use), and nature/environmental impact. Required documents are a project description, cost estimates, and proof of official permits. This funding offer is aimed at all those who wish to strengthen rural transport while simultaneously promoting ecological standards.
