Description
Empowering the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development targets companies, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and educational establishments within the EU. This Horizon Europe grant supports projects dedicated to international cooperation and the strengthening of governance structures within the framework of the UN Decade of Ocean Science (2021–2030). The objective is to secure key processes, initiatives, and structures for sustainable marine research beyond the end of the decade. Funded are research, digitization, and innovation projects with a maximum funding amount of €3 million per project, at a funding rate of 100%. Applications can be submitted until April 15, 2026.
Interested participants must cooperate with at least three independent partners from different countries, possess a legal form registered in the EU Participant Register, and hold a PIC (Participant Identification Code). Eligible costs include personnel expenses, travel costs, material expenses, and subcontracting services of any company size. Evaluation criteria include the degree of innovation, relevance to the UN Decade’s objectives, and the quality of transnational cooperation. Project partners particularly include ocean science researchers, policymakers, and civil society organizations active in global ocean governance. Planned project steps encompass the development of new governance models, capacity building, and measures to strengthen transnational networks. Applicants benefit from 100% cost coverage and a competitive selection process that lays the foundation for the long-term safeguarding of marine research.
