Description

The state of Tyrol offers financial support for agricultural livestock holders and private animal keepers whose marked livestock or beehives have been directly damaged by large wild animals (e.g., bear, wolf, lynx). Under this grant, only the value of the directly killed animal or destroyed beehive is reimbursed, while indirect or consequential damages are not considered. Additionally, feed costs incurred from state-recommended herd protection measures—such as early alpine pasture withdrawal or housing of endangered animals—can be subsidized. Applications can be submitted informally at any time, ensuring flexible submission and no rigid deadlines.

Eligible are individuals with an agricultural business location in Tyrol whose damages are documented by proof via ear tag, DNA analysis, or expert report. For the subsidy of feed costs, an official recommendation as a herd protection measure is required. The application must include information on the animal species, predator, damage location, and the estimated value of the animal, as well as a list of affected animals including identification marks. Bank details and evidence of early withdrawal dates or housing must also be submitted. This funding supports sustainable coexistence between agriculture and forestry on the one hand and wildlife on the other by directly relieving affected holders and creating incentives for preventive herd protection measures.
