Description

The scholarship “Experience the World! Your School Year Abroad” enables young people from all over Germany to spend a ten-month school year abroad, who would otherwise be unable to participate without financial support. Up to 80% of the program costs, up to a maximum of €14,500, are covered as a partial grant, provided that the remaining amounts are borne by the cooperating exchange organization. The program is specifically aimed at young people with financial need, those from East German federal states, families with an immigration background, students from school types other than grammar schools, and participants with disabilities. In doing so, the Kreuzberg Children’s Foundation promotes equal opportunities and broadens the cultural horizons of the beneficiaries.

Applications can be submitted at any time through one of the four non-profit exchange organizations AFS, Experiment, Open Door International, or YFU, which arrange host families and provide support in the host country. Requirements include motivation for a ten-month year abroad, data protection consent for data transmission, and proof that participation would not be feasible without the grant. The decision is based on personal commitment, family situation, chosen program duration, and underrepresented background. After successful placement confirmation, the exchange organization submits the application to the foundation—no separate application is required. Through this continuously open process, particularly disadvantaged young people gain access to international educational experiences and strengthen their intercultural skills for a confident future.
