Adventure Education School Hostel Barkhausen (Ehlerding Foundation)

Since 2000, the experiential educational school camp Barkhausen has been operated by the Ehlerding Foundation in Lower Saxony and specifically promotes education, nature, and environmental pedagogy for children and youth through grants. Located in the heart of the UNESCO Geopark TERRA.vita, it offers a holistic program of experience-oriented activities such as archery, climbing in the high ropes course, or orienteering. The idyllic setting in the Wiehen Hills combines learning content on environmental and nature conservation, energy efficiency, and climate protection with physical activity, nutrition, and relaxation. School classes, youth groups, and trainees experience how personality development and team spirit are sustainably strengthened through practical programs. Both seminars for trainees and temporary conferences and professional events are possible, funded by the Ehlerding Foundation’s resources and bookable at any time without an application deadline.

The funding objective focuses on imparting nature and environmental competence as well as strengthening social and personal key competencies in rural areas. Educational institutions can continuously apply for grants to implement school trips, youth camps, or seminars cost-effectively. The programs create opportunities to jointly overcome challenges away from digital distractions, with a special emphasis on climate protection and sustainable action. Participating groups not only gain self-confidence and a sense of responsibility but also actively practice dealing with ecological issues. Thus, the school camp Barkhausen becomes an exciting learning venue that motivates young people to engage with nature and environmental topics and collaboratively develop sustainable solutions.
