The individual case assistance of the Toni Kroos Foundation is aimed at families in North Rhine-Westphalia who face existential financial and organizational challenges due to the severe or chronic illness of a child. The goal of the funding is to specifically improve quality of life by covering costs for therapies, medical aids, and mobility- as well as home-adaptation measures. Intervention is particularly made where health insurance does not cover services or where urgent assistance is critically needed. Private individuals can submit applications at any time, as the foundation responds flexibly to urgent individual cases through ongoing grants. The support includes, in addition to conventional therapies such as physical, art, or music therapy, also special offerings like animal-assisted applications and the fulfillment of small heartfelt wishes to give affected families a sense of normality in their often stressful daily lives.

Funding is provided, among other things, for medical aids (e.g., wheelchairs, therapy couches, positioning cushions), disability-appropriate mobility aids (e.g., electric handbikes, special bicycles), training devices such as the Galileo vibration plate, as well as modifications to the home or vehicle conversions for vehicles up to a maximum of five years old and 70,000 km. Cost coverage by health insurance must have been previously denied, and a special and urgent need for assistance must exist. Decisions are based on urgency, the family’s burden situation, and the cost pressure resulting from the insurance denial. Excluded are, for example, dolphin and SwimLab therapies, assistance dogs, vacation trips, or purchases such as houses and apartments. Thus, the individual case assistance offers tailored support for parents and relatives seeking rapid help for their ill child and wishing to be relieved by the foundation.
