Spatial Management Projects

The funding program supports large-scale protective forest projects in Styria with the aim of preserving and improving the diverse functions of the forest – from erosion control and avalanche prevention to CO₂ sequestration and biodiversity – in the long term. Eligible for funding are private individuals, companies, and public institutions that identify a proven need for action in forest areas and wish to implement measures for disaster and climate protection. Financial support is specifically provided for plantings, maintenance interventions, and infrastructural measures to increase resilience against natural hazards.

The processing of continuously possible grant applications is carried out by the respective district administrative authority in close cooperation with the Forestry Technical Service of the Torrent and Avalanche Control. Applicants receive comprehensive advice from the authority, while the authority assumes professional oversight, approval, and accounting of the funds. Prerequisites for a grant are a documented need for action in the protective forest and the approval of the application by the federal government. Funding applications can be submitted at any time from September 16, 2025, as the program has no end date and thus continuously enables measures to strengthen the protective forest stock in Styria.
