Promotion of innovative and application-oriented research and development approaches in environmental protection for the effective implementation of findings into economic practice, to improve R&D framework conditions, and to strengthen sustainable economic development in the state of Bremen.

Description
The Applied Environmental Research Funding Program (AUF) is a continuously open grant instrument for research institutions across all disciplines and companies located or operating in the state of Bremen. Its aim is to promote innovative and application-oriented research and development approaches with an environmental protection focus. Key thematic areas include energy efficiency & renewable energies, climate protection, environmental and nature conservation, as well as research & innovation. The non-repayable grants cover up to 100% of eligible expenses for scientific institutions and up to 50% for commercial partners. Individual projects can be funded with up to €150,000 and collaborative projects with up to €200,000 to effectively transfer research results into economic practice and strengthen sustainable economic structures in the state of Bremen.
Eligible costs particularly include personnel expenses for employees subject to social security contributions, acquisition of instruments and equipment, external services such as consulting and service contracts, as well as other operating costs. Project management must be carried out by professors or doctoral scientific staff of a Bremen research institution. Collaborative projects require a written cooperation agreement between all partners. The maximum funding duration is 24 months; projects commissioned by third parties or conflicting with public interests are excluded. The technical evaluation is based on innovation and transfer potential, economic relevance, contribution to environmental and climate protection, as well as methodological quality. Following a positive evaluation of the project outline, applicants are invited to submit a full proposal to Bremer Aufbau-Bank GmbH or BIS Bremerhavener Gesellschaft für Investitionsförderung und Stadtentwicklung mbH to enable a prompt project start.
