Description

The Luftbrückendank Foundation offers Berlin schools continuously available grant funding for innovative school projects that artistically and historically engage with the events of the Berlin Airlift 1948/49. Among other things, music, theater, dance, and media formats are supported that keep the memory of this central phase of post-war history alive. Furthermore, thematically prepared class trips to the USA, Great Britain, or France can be funded to promote international understanding and enable intercultural experiences. A documented concept for the cinematic or textual preparation of the results constitutes a key criterion in the evaluation. Applications are accepted at any time and assessed based on content relevance, artistic quality, international involvement, and a coherent documentation concept.

Eligible for funding are public institutions and non-profit organizations with projects at Berlin schools that establish the historical connection to the Berlin Blockade and document the project or travel results comprehensibly. Grants cover project and event costs, travel expenses for class trips, as well as material, in-kind, and documentation costs. To apply, a detailed project description, a financing plan, and supporting documents such as an extract from the register of associations and a current tax exemption certificate are required. The Foundation expects a clear schedule, information on cooperation partners, and an explanation of the intended impact on the participants. This funding aims to sensitize young people to the lessons of history and to keep the spirit of freedom alive in Berlin and the former sponsoring states of the Airlift.
