Description
The state funding in Lower Saxony is aimed at owners and operators of cultural monuments subject to preservation obligations, including private individuals, public institutions, non-profit organizations, and companies. The goal is to support securing, maintenance, and upkeep measures according to § 32 NDSchG, in order to fulfill the monument preservation obligations and to permanently preserve the cultural heritage. Eligible for funding are monument-appropriate conversions, restorations, replacement of building components, architectural-historical and restoration investigations, documentation, as well as archaeological research measures. The funding rate is usually up to 30% of the eligible total expenses, with grants awarded from a minimum of €3,000. Applications can be submitted continuously until December 31, 2030, to the Lower Saxony State Office for Monument Preservation.
A prerequisite for approval is the prior coordination of the planned measures with the State Office and the existence of a monument preservation permit; any premature start of construction before approval is excluded. An ongoing insolvency proceeding excludes eligibility for funding. The decision is made based on the monument-related urgency, the significance of the monument, and the availability of budget funds. The application must include the completed application form, an expenditure and financing plan based on cost estimates or quotes, photos of the current condition, existing permits, and, if applicable, powers of attorney. Through this transparent and practice-oriented funding, the maintenance of historic building fabric is promoted and the cultural identity in Lower Saxony is strengthened in the long term.
