Description
Since 2008, the Hans-Jürgen Werner Foundation has supported the preservation and restoration of art historically significant cultural assets in the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Primarily, individual projects with urgent restoration needs are funded through annual grants – these include stone monuments, valuable paintings, ornate interiors, or other art objects worthy of preservation. The goal is to sustainably secure art and culture and to manage them responsibly over the long term. Ongoing application submissions allow for flexible project planning, with both the urgency of the restoration measures and the cultural and art historical significance of the objects playing a central role in the evaluation process.
Eligible for funding are owners of historic buildings or artworks in Hamburg, including private collectors, non-profit organizations, and public institutions. All expenses directly related to restoration, renovation, or monument conservation are eligible for funding. A prerequisite for funding is the location in Hamburg as well as the demonstration of a professionally justified project in the field of monument conservation or restoration. The Foundation welcomes applications that are convincing through a well-founded description of the planned measures and a transparent cost breakdown. Since funding is awarded on an ongoing basis, project proposals can be submitted at any time – thus providing cultural asset providers with sufficient flexibility to initiate urgently needed preservation work in a timely manner.
