Description

Support for Journalism Training in the State of Upper Austria is provided by the Office of the Upper Austrian State Government to media companies with headquarters or regional editorial offices in Upper Austria for the practical and theoretical qualification of junior journalists. This open-ended funding program is aimed at companies in the media sector and seeks to establish solid training structures in the areas of initial and continuing education, education, media, as well as culture & media. As a direct grant measure, annual funds amounting to €0.08 million are made available to implement projects for the promotion of young journalists locally. A key prerequisite for funding is that the company or regional editorial office is of sufficient size to ensure high-quality training and continuing education.

For applications in the current year, an informal funding request and the funding declaration FinD/E-2 must be submitted by no later than December 1. Compliance with this deadline is binding; late submissions will not be considered. Upon approval, disbursement is made upon proof of earmarked use, such as salary evidence for trainees. Further details on the legal basis and type of service can be found in the relevant guidelines of the Upper Austrian State Government. This funding, valid indefinitely since 2014, offers media companies an attractive opportunity to professionally train junior journalists in a practice-oriented manner and to sustainably strengthen journalistic quality in the region.
