Funding of the Leipzig Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer

The Leipzig Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer continuously supports projects in Saxony that advance knowledge and technology transfer between universities, research institutions, and the regional economy. Funding is primarily provided to small and medium-sized enterprises, start-ups, educational institutions, founders, and non-profit organizations that jointly implement sustainable transfer projects in Leipzig. Financial support is granted in the form of subsidies and aims to stimulate economic development in Leipzig in areas such as research & innovation, science, business and regional development, as well as agriculture and rural development. Prior to submitting an application, coordination with the office is recommended before the board, together with the advisory board, makes a decision.

A prerequisite for funding is a clear focus on sustainability as well as a limited start-up budget, supplemented by a financial and/or in-kind contribution. The project structure must involve cooperation among several partners—at least one partner must be based in Leipzig—and ensure that the results are published in an appropriate form and made accessible to third parties. Purely company-specific individual projects will not be considered. In the evaluation, the infrastructural impact on the city, prospects for continuation, the applicants’ own contribution, and the involvement of science and industry play a decisive role. This approach promotes long-term effective innovation networks and strengthens the potential of Leipzig as a business location.
