The Free State of Thuringia supports pharmacists in establishing pharmacy operations in rural areas to ensure the proper supply of medicines in communities with fewer than 25,000 inhabitants.

Description
The Free State of Thuringia supports the establishment, takeover, and barrier-free modernization of public pharmacies in rural communities with fewer than 25,000 inhabitants through a non-repayable grant. Founders who, as natural person pharmacists, start operating a pharmacy within the Thuringian funding area and commence operations within seven days after the issuance of the operating license can receive investment costs of up to €40,000 as well as up to €5,000 per location for measures to create barrier-free access. Funding is primarily provided for renovation and conversion work, the acquisition of pharmacy-specific equipment, as well as office and business equipment including hardware and software. A prerequisite is the operation and pharmaceutical activity over a period of at least 60 months, with the waiver of an early start of measures without written approval.
Applications are submitted continuously and in writing to the Thuringian State Administration Office as long as funding is available. The funding process is based on the funding guideline for establishment support (as of 22.11.2023) as well as the instructions for the funding procedure dated 16.07.2024 and the annex ANBest-P. Applicants submit the application “Establishment of Pharmacists in Rural Areas” for this purpose. The aim of this program is to ensure comprehensive pharmaceutical supply in rural areas of Thuringia and to strengthen infrastructure. This funding creates the necessary structural and technical conditions to make public pharmacies future-proof and barrier-free, thereby sustainably contributing to local healthcare provision.
