Funding of the Salzburg Festival

The funding in Salzburg supports public institutions in covering any operational deficits of the Salzburg Festival Fund. It contributes to the preparation and execution of the renowned festival as well as related events that align with the objectives and dignity of the festival. Designed as a grant, it is awarded continuously and enables liquidity planning through disbursements in four installments. Public institutions are entitled to submit an application at any time to ensure the cultural diversity and international significance of these events.

A prerequisite for a grant is the recognition of operational deficits in accordance with § 4 of the Federal Act of July 12, 1950, on the Establishment of a Salzburg Festival Fund. Only expenses directly attributable to the fund are eligible for funding. Support is provided based on an unlimited application deadline and guarantees reliable financing for artistic planning, production, and execution. Through this targeted funding, the State of Salzburg makes a sustainable contribution to strengthening its cultural infrastructure and secures the continuity of a globally valued festival format.
