Description

The nationwide Wanderjugend Foundation supports non-profit groups of the German Wanderjugend with financial grants for exceptional, forward-looking, and creative projects in the field of youth hiking. The aim is to make the guiding principles of the Wanderjugend tangible, to implement environmentally compatible outdoor sports, child- and youth-appropriate forms of hiking, as well as artistic and cultural leisure activities, and to support both the quantitative and qualitative development of the association. Particular focus is placed on projects in the thematic areas of children and youth, social issues, sports and work & social affairs, as well as culture & media. Funding applications can be submitted by October 31 of the previous year, while simplified small applications up to €200 can be submitted at any time.

All DWJ groups, from local youth groups to state associations up to the federal level, are eligible for funding, provided they are recognized as non-profit organizations. A written application with a comprehensive project description and a detailed financing plan is required, demonstrating that adequate financing cannot be achieved without the foundation’s grant. Selection is based on criteria such as degree of innovation, strengthening of the German Wanderjugend, qualification of volunteer structures, environmental compatibility, artistic and cultural design, and promotion of international encounters. Following a positive decision, proof of appropriate use of funds and a final report with evidence of expenditure must be submitted. The application includes the official application form, a detailed project description, and the financing plan; documentation is complemented by evidence of voluntary engagement. The application process allows for timely feedback and supports project initiators in the successful implementation of their ideas.
