Description
The promotion of development cooperation in Hessen is aimed at educational institutions and companies based in Hessen that are recognized as non-profit for tax purposes. The focus is on development policy projects both domestically and abroad, as well as Global Learning for Sustainable Development (SDG 4) in Hessen. Applications can be submitted by February 15 and June 15 each year. The project duration extends up to twelve months, with funding covering up to 40% of eligible expenses. Eligible costs include personnel expenses, material costs, and travel expenses; retroactively incurred costs and land acquisition are not funded. The objectives are to improve living conditions in the Global South, combat hunger and poverty, strengthen education and healthcare, and promote democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. Special attention is given to projects with added value such as innovative approaches, multiplier effects, and work with vulnerable population groups. The Hessian state government covers part of the financing and enables efficient processing via the digital application portal.
In Hessen, domestic projects are also intended to raise awareness of global interconnections: schools, municipal initiatives, and non-governmental organizations are supported in actions and workshops to promote sustainable lifestyles and development policy engagement. The “One World Promoters” program networks actors to provide local impetus. University assignments (Sur-Place scholarships) further strengthen scientific cooperation with partners in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. An interdepartmental working group on development cooperation and an advisory board consolidate expertise and promote dialogue between administration, civil society, business, and science. This creates a coherent funding landscape that advances development policy action both in Hessen and the Global South alike.
