Funding objective

Description

The state funding for biomass heating systems in Upper Austria supports agricultural enterprises in replacing fossil energy sources with biogenic fuels and renewing heating boilers or heat generators older than ten years. Eligible technologies include wood chip, pellet, and log wood systems as well as biomass heating systems that generate electricity. The aim of the initiative is to strengthen the use of renewable energy sources, advance climate protection measures, and accelerate the transition to sustainable energy sources in the agricultural sector. Natural and legal persons as well as agricultural enterprises with at least three hectares of own arable or grassland in Upper Austria are eligible.

Investment and installation costs are subsidized up to 50% of the recognized net costs, provided these amount to at least €4,400 net. The maximum grant amounts are €3,200 for wood chip, €2,900 for pellet heating systems, and €1,700 for log wood systems. Additionally, electricity-generating systems can be supported with a bonus of €5,000. A prerequisite for the grant is a valid type approval by a state-authorized testing body, compliance with building regulations and the Upper Austrian Air Quality and Energy Technology Act, as well as the waiver of connection to local or district heating networks. The funding application must be submitted within 18 months of the invoice date, but no later than December 31, 2026. Proofs to be submitted include a fully completed online application, confirmation of proper installation by an authorized installer, and invoices with payment receipts.
