Description
Within the framework of the federal funding program for e-cargo bikes and e-cargo trailers, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) supports commercial mobility solutions in Germany through the Federal Office for Economic Affairs and Export Control (BAFA). Funding is provided for the acquisition of brand-new, series-produced e-cargo bikes and trailers that are electrically powered and permanently connected to the bicycle. The objective is to increase energy efficiency, reduce emissions, and strengthen sustainable logistics concepts in industry, commerce, trade, and services. Eligible applicants are small and medium-sized enterprises of all legal forms as well as corporations and institutions under public law that use e-cargo bikes in commercial freight transport and thereby contribute to climate and environmental protection.
The funding is granted as a non-repayable subsidy amounting to 25% of the acquisition costs, but not exceeding €3,500 per unit. A prerequisite is the submission of an application prior to commissioning, ownership acquisition of the funded items, and their use in commercial freight transport. From October 1, 2024, a non-binding offer, a project description, and proof of commercial or freelance activity can be submitted via an electronic application portal. After approval, a twelve-month period begins for acquisition, followed by a proof of use that includes invoices, delivery and service contracts, as well as a photograph of the funded vehicle. The approval and disbursement periods each take place within a few weeks after receipt of all complete documents, enabling companies to quickly benefit from the subsidy and redesign their logistics processes in a climate-friendly manner.
