Description
The Pro FIT program of the Investitionsbank Berlin (IBB) supports technology-based innovation projects at all stages of the research and development process in the capital region. Funding is provided for individual and collaborative projects of commercial enterprises as well as joint projects with research institutions that exceed the current state of the art and develop new products, processes, or services with unique selling points. In the industrial research phase, funding is granted in the form of non-repayable grants, while in the experimental development phase and for production setup, market preparation, and market launch, primarily low-interest loans of up to €1 million or De minimis grants of up to €400,000 are provided. Eligible costs include project-related personnel expenses, external services, material costs, initial patent applications, market launch costs, and indirect expenses. The project duration is up to 36 months, with funding rates of up to 80% of eligible costs depending on company size and consortium configuration. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can benefit from bonuses for their own contributions and cooperation projects with research institutions.
Eligible applicants are companies and research institutions with headquarters or operations in Berlin. Research institutions receive grants only in consortia with companies; large enterprises only in cooperation with SMEs. A detailed project proposal, a financing and equity plan, an SME self-declaration, and a draft consortium cooperation agreement must be submitted. The IBB initially evaluates the project through external expert reviewers for technical feasibility and innovation content, followed by a commercial assessment. Applications can be submitted online at any time via the IBB customer portal. IBB customer advisory services assist with application questions and offer technical support if needed. Pro FIT aims to strengthen regional competitiveness, expand cooperation structures, and sustainably support young technology companies.
