Description
As a nationwide funding measure for research and development in the field of electromobility, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), together with the BMWK, supports projects in the thematic areas of Smart Cities & Regions, Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energies, Mobility, Digitalization, and Climate Protection. Eligible for funding are public institutions, local authorities, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), as well as universities and non-university research institutions with corresponding R&D capacities in Germany. Projects aimed at testing and optimizing charging infrastructures, recycling processes, automated and autonomous electric vehicles, as well as strengthening value chains, are supported. The funding rate amounts to up to 50% of eligible costs for companies and up to 100% for universities and research institutions. Project outlines can be submitted annually by April 30th.
The maximum duration of a project is 36 months. A prerequisite for approval, in addition to the professional qualification of the applicants, is suitable personnel and material resources as well as a utilization plan with annual updates and adjustments to market and technology developments. For joint projects, a written cooperation agreement must also be submitted. Small and medium-sized enterprises may receive additional BONUS funding rates under certain conditions to further accelerate innovations in electromobility. This forward-looking support aims to establish ecological standards, increase the utilization rate of electric vehicles, and reduce dependence on fossil energy sources.
