Description

The funding program supports universities and non-university research institutions in Saarland in developing subject-specific and regional focal points as well as in establishing modern research infrastructures. With funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), both scientific research and development projects as well as equipment, construction investments, and initial outfitting are financed. The goal is to strengthen the innovation potential of Saarland educational institutions and to create synergies between different disciplines. Projects that pursue interdisciplinary approaches, integrate methods of artificial intelligence, or contribute to digital transformation are particularly welcome. Projects within the framework of the REACT-EU initiative, which consider expenditures invested between February 1, 2020, and December 31, 2023, are also included.

Eligible to apply are all universities and non-university research institutions based in Germany that implement their measures predominantly in Saarland. A prerequisite for funding is a detailed cost and financing plan, proof of independent research activity, and assurance of overall financing. Funding rates range from 75% of eligible costs for non-university research institutions up to 100% for university projects and REACT-EU initiatives. Project implementation may begin from the date of approval. Supporting criteria include regional relevance, innovation potential, interdisciplinarity, as well as alignment with the innovation strategy or the Saarland state university development plan.
