Description

For years, the David Nature Foundation has been supporting innovative projects in the fields of environmental, climate, and nature conservation in Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. With an annual funding amount of up to €15,000, projects are particularly supported that implement concrete measures and make a direct contribution to nature and environmental protection. The thematic focus is on initiatives that optimally combine nature conservation and climate protection, sustainably strengthen local environmental initiatives, and develop effective solutions against environmental degradation. Funding is aimed at non-profit, charitable, and public institutions as well as educational establishments that submit project applications within clearly defined guidelines.

The foundation places special emphasis on projects that are prospectively self-sustaining, generate multiplier effects, and close existing financing gaps. In this context, both honoraria and material costs are specifically funded. The concept includes several funding amounts: while small projects with an application amount of up to €500 can be submitted at any time and decided upon within six weeks, applications with higher amounts—up to €5,000 or €15,000—are subject to fixed deadlines. Applications for €5,000 are evaluated quarterly, whereas larger projects are decided upon once a year. The total project costs should not exceed €100,000, or in the case of a larger undertaking, the application volume should reach from €100,000 upwards. Evaluation criteria include, among others, the concrete implementation of measures, a well-thought-out financing plan, and the prospect of long-term impact.

Applications are submitted via online forms that ensure direct input into the foundation’s database system, thereby making the processing procedure efficient. In addition to the completed form, a detailed project description and a cost and financing plan are required. This structured approach enables transparent evaluation of the projects, whereby verified funding criteria primarily support projects that actively implement environmental and climate protection measures. The David Nature Foundation is also open to innovative approaches that further develop existing environmental initiatives and serve as models for sustainable development in the eastern German federal states. With this holistic funding concept, the foundation secures regional environmental initiatives in the long term and makes a decisive contribution to preserving a livable environment.
