Open-air theaters

The funding program is aimed at sponsoring associations of non-profit open-air theaters in North Rhine-Westphalia and specifically supports equipment measures such as stage design, costumes, and makeup supplies. Fixed-amount funding ranging from €3,000 to €10,000 is available. A prerequisite is a comprehensible project description with a balanced financing plan; a personal contribution is expressly desired. Only non-profit interest groups or associations that aim to enrich cultural open-air performances with their project and sustainably strengthen the region’s cultural offerings are eligible to apply.

Applications must be submitted digitally via the KULTUR.web portal by November 30 of each year for the following year. After final approval of the online application, a printed version with an original signature must be submitted. Evaluation is based on the clarity of the project application and the available personal contribution. In a funding review meeting, the responsible ministry decides on the allocation of funds. The goal is to enhance the artistic quality of open-air productions and to secure attractive cultural offerings for visitors of all ages in the long term.
