Description

The »FREIRÄUME! Initiative for Cultural Integration Projects« of the Hamburg Cultural Foundation has been supporting artistic and cultural-educational programs for children and young people with refugee experience in the Hamburg region since 2016. Funding is provided for long-term, regularly occurring projects that enable intercultural exchange and create protected free spaces. Eligible to apply are individuals active in Hamburg, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions with proven qualifications and experience in working with young refugees. The initiative grants financial subsidies of up to 15,000 euros (100% funding rate) for fees and material costs such as supplies and proportional room rental. Continuous application submission is possible, with applications requiring a fully completed application form, CVs, project concept, cost breakdown, work samples, extended certificate of good conduct, and a child protection concept (if available).

Evaluation criteria include, in addition to professional expertise, the ability to promote empowerment and participation of the target group, existing trusting relationships with the target group, and the design of extracurricular formats. Projects should initiate encounters between children and young people with and without refugee experience and achieve sustainable impact. A digital report on the use of funds must be submitted three months after project completion. The funding is specifically aimed at Hamburg-based artists, art therapists, cultural educators, and institutions of cultural education who implement art courses, music therapy, dance, or rap projects and thereby actively support integration. Further information and the online application form are available on the Hamburg Cultural Foundation’s website.
