Description
The International Youth Voluntary Service (IJFD) in the USA offers young adults the opportunity to participate for a period of six to eleven months at the guesthouse "the Cedars" of the Fellowship Foundation in Washington. With a grant from the Foundation for Fundamental Values and International Understanding in cooperation with the organization Global Volunteer Service (gvs), interested individuals receive financial support and comprehensive guidance through preparatory seminars as well as a re-entry program upon their return. The engagement includes household tasks, service at official dinners, event management, garden and landscape maintenance, as well as support for various projects promoting peace, international understanding, and sustainable development. Through interaction with national and international guest groups, a vibrant intercultural learning environment is created, contributing both to personal development and the strengthening of global solidarity.
Eligible for funding are young private individuals from all over Germany who wish to commit themselves to social cohesion, democratic coexistence, and development policy engagement. Applications can be submitted at any time via the initiative "Responsibility before God and People"; a prerequisite is an interest in international voluntary service. The scholarship aims to expand the intercultural competence of participants and to convey a sustainable understanding of peace promotion and intercultural encounter through practical work at the guesthouse. The continuously open application process facilitates the start of this formative year abroad, which offers not only professional skills but above all valuable personal experiences.
