Description

The Voluntary Social Year in School Childcare (SBOV) in Vorarlberg offers young adults aged 18 to 24 a practical introduction to social professions. In cooperation with Soziale Berufsorientierung Vorarlberg GmbH, placements are provided at primary schools to promote social skills and commitment to the community. Participants receive a direct grant in the form of a monthly allowance of €530 net, are covered by accident, health, and pension insurance, and benefit from a travel allowance including the Ö climate ticket. With an average weekly working time of 34 hours in childcare and 4 hours of course accompaniment, the program offers a diverse insight into student supervision and strengthens responsibility as well as pedagogical skills.

Participation requires a completed school or vocational qualification, physical and mental health, and a fully completed application form including a passport photo. The project duration is 10 months. Seventeen-year-olds additionally need a written consent from their legal guardians. The funding type is structured as a direct grant, with motivation and commitment as central evaluation criteria. Selection also takes place through a personal suitability interview. Ongoing funding opportunities ensure that entry is possible at later dates as well. Applications for the 2025/26 cycle are still possible; the exact deadline can be requested from SBOV. As a direct funding measure of the State of Vorarlberg, the places are continuously available and offer a valuable opportunity to combine social practice with personal and professional orientation.
