Garden Plot in Children's Hands

In Baden-Württemberg, the funding program "Garden Land in Children's Hands" offers daycare centers the opportunity to create green oases and cultivate them together with the youngest children. Gardening projects that focus on experiencing nature and engaging with healthy nutrition are supported. The goal is to awaken environmental awareness and joy in sustainable actions from the earliest stages of life. The Kinderland Baden-Württemberg Foundation supports educational institutions, non-profit, and public organizations as a grant provider in planning, establishing, and maintaining beds, kitchen gardens, or herb spirals throughout the season.

The program allows for continuous application submissions, so project ideas can be submitted at any time. Participating institutions submit a detailed project proposal describing plant selection, workflows, and learning objectives. Educators and children work hand in hand in the partnership of gardening and environmental education. Through the practical design of beds, children learn to take responsibility, understand plant cycles, and playfully experience seasonal relationships. This funding opportunity strengthens competencies in environmental and nature conservation as well as health, and already ignites enthusiasm for natural sciences and sustainable development in the youngest children.
