The Sonnenfeld Foundation supports research projects nationwide in the field of human medicine by providing partial funding for the acquisition of medical equipment. With a typical funding amount of around €25,000, the foundation strengthens projects that would not receive sufficient equipment resources without co-financing by their own sponsors. Both educational institutions and dedicated private individuals are supported, with the foundation board deciding on the applications on April 21, 2026. The final submission deadline at the foundation office is March 23, 2026. Research groups that wish to expand or newly initiate their scientific investigations through the new equipment particularly benefit from this grant.

For a successful application, a precise project description and a detailed work program are as essential as proof of prior work and the current state of research. An endorsement from the institute or group leader, as well as manufacturer and supplier offers including possible discounts, are also mandatory components of the documentation. The foundation places great importance on the multiple use of the equipment by various working groups and evaluates the scientific basis and the expected benefit of the results. Projects may start from April 22, 2026, with applications submitted informally as a PDF. Selection is made based on transparent criteria and, if necessary, after obtaining external expert reviews by the foundation board.
