Description
The Heinrich Hertz Scholarship of the Heinrich Hertz Foundation is aimed at researchers who wish to promote international exchange between North Rhine-Westphalia and abroad. Funding is provided for research stays by researchers active in NRW abroad, as well as for researchers active abroad in North Rhine-Westphalia. The scholarship supports individual travel or living expenses with up to €1,500 per month for a maximum duration of 12 months. A one-time extension is possible in justified exceptional cases. The goal is to strengthen scientific dialogue and sustainably network innovative research projects. The next application deadline is February 2, 2026, and the project start can take place from February 3, 2026, onwards.
A prerequisite for a successful application is a concrete project plan as well as submission by a university professor active in North Rhine-Westphalia. Applicants must demonstrate basic language skills of the host country or German language skills and be employed in their home country before the start of the scholarship. Also required are an informal letter of intent, a detailed CV, copies of certificates with translations, a timeline of the research project, and confirmation from the host institution. Two scientific referees as well as a statement regarding the intended follow-up activity and any other scholarships applied for are also part of the required documents. Selection is based on the quality and feasibility of the project, the contribution to international exchange, and the scientific qualifications of the applicants. Interested researchers are advised to review the requirements early to ensure a complete and timely application.
