Description

Innovative Technologies and Instruments for the Exploration and Data Modeling of Raw Materials (RIA) supports EU-wide research and development projects that advance the use of the latest methods for the extraction, processing, and modeling of data on critical raw material deposits. Funding is provided to companies of all sizes, startups, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations from EU member states and associated countries that develop innovative exploration technologies and mineralogical system analyses. With a maximum funding amount of up to €7,000,000 per consortium for a project duration of 36 months, all eligible expenses (personnel costs, material costs, travel expenses, subcontractor services, and equipment unit costs) are subsidized at 100%. Applications for the RIA project can be submitted until April 21, 2026. Compliance with Horizon Europe conditions, the Open Market Consultation procedure, and legal anchoring in European countries are prerequisites.

The focus is on the integration of remote sensing, geophysics, geochemistry, AI, and machine learning methods to create high-resolution 3D models of raw material deposits. The goal is to identify underexplored regions and strengthen national exploration programs in accordance with the Critical Raw Materials Regulation. Evaluation criteria include the overall scientific and technological approach, exploitation and communication measures, as well as interdisciplinary consortium expertise. Funded projects contribute to sustainable supply security and the competitiveness of the European raw materials industry and lay the foundation for new SMEs in the raw materials sector. Interested consortia collaboratively develop business cases and exploitation strategies to ensure rapid market introduction and synergies with European partnerships.
