Description

In Styria, interdisciplinary audiological early intervention and family support promote hearing-impaired children aged 0 to 6 years (up to a maximum of three months after school entry) through targeted measures to strengthen hearing, speech, and communication skills. Non-profit private disability institutions with a written service contract with the Styrian state government can apply for grants for this purpose. The program follows a holistic care concept that considers the developmental potential of the child as well as the active involvement of family members to enable sustainable social integration.

The target group consists of hearing-impaired children with a valid disability assistance notice, for whom a medical hearing diagnosis or suspicion of hearing impairment exists. Family members requiring support from Deaf culture or in cases of multiple disabilities are also professionally accompanied. Interdisciplinary teams of audiologists, speech therapists, educators, and social workers design a needs-based support setting. Funding is provided as a grant, offering non-profit providers financial planning security. Close cooperation with experts creates a sustainable network that relieves families and supports children in their individual development. The continuous submission of applications allows for demand-oriented and timely adjustment of support measures to the individual developmental progress of the children. Applications can be submitted at any time to Department 11 – Social Affairs, Labor and Integration of the Styrian State Government.
