Description

The Interreg VI A Programme Germany – Netherlands 2021–2027 supports cross-border projects in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Eligible applicants include public institutions, companies, educational institutions, interest groups, and other associations, as well as cooperating research partners in the border regions. The aim is to strengthen economic, social, and administrative structures through intensive collaboration between German and Dutch partners. Projects that create added value for the population in the programme area in terms of sustainable regional development or agricultural and rural development are supported. Grants of up to EUR 5,000,000 can be applied for, with special consideration given to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Continuous submission of applications without fixed deadlines allows for flexible project development and short-term funding decisions within established evaluation rounds.

A prerequisite for approval is a cooperation project with at least one partner from Germany and the Netherlands, as well as a formalized cooperation agreement. The main responsibility lies with a designated lead partner who coordinates the content-related and financial implementation. The project must not have started before the application, must be sustainable, and must have complete overall financing. Furthermore, innovative concepts are required that emphasize the cross-border character and bring sustainable benefits to the programme regions. Decisions are made following review by the regional and programme-wide steering committees, with support services provided by the Joint Interreg Secretariat Germany – Netherlands in Kleve.
