Climate School PLUS

Klimaschule PLUS is an ongoing, free advisory and support program for Hamburg schools of all types and their school communities. The program is offered by the Hamburg Climate Protection Foundation in cooperation with the State Institute for Teacher Training and School Development (LI). The goal is the systematic integration of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and the development of a school-specific climate protection plan. The project team supports each school individually – from the initial assessment (technical and pedagogical) through the definition of concrete CO₂ reduction targets to the implementation of long-term climate protection systems. Workshops and training sessions for teachers, thematic workshops for students, as well as regular networking meetings promote professional exchange and support the establishment of sustainable partnerships with experts from administration, school construction, and the environmental authority. In addition, schools receive impulses for energy-efficient measures, organizational structures, and proven practical projects from six fields of action: heating, electricity, waste, procurement, nutrition, and mobility.

Interested Hamburg educational institutions that wish to be certified as a Climate School and develop an individual roadmap for this purpose are invited to participate. A non-binding initial consultation followed by a completed registration form is required; the number of advisory slots is limited. Upon acceptance into the program, a tailor-made climate protection plan is created, which ultimately serves as the basis for the award of the “Climate School” quality seal. The continuous support provided by Klimaschule PLUS strengthens internal climate protection structures in the long term, promotes the commitment of both teachers and students equally, and contributes to sustainable school development in Hamburg.
