Description

The temporary combined wage subsidy aims to secure the cost of living for low-paid but fully insured employment throughout Austria. Individuals with health impairments, long-term unemployed persons over 50, and those re-entering the workforce receive a financial supplement granted in addition to unemployment benefits or emergency assistance. The subsidy amounts to 30% (under 30 hours per week) or 55% (from 30 hours per week) of the net earned income, depending on working hours, and is capped at a maximum of €950 per month. Applications can be submitted at any time via the eAMS account or by phone to the Public Employment Service, thereby promoting a seamless transition into employment.

Eligibility requires a fully insured employment relationship with at least 20 or 30 hours per week and one of the following conditions: health impairment, unemployment exceeding three months for persons aged 50 and above, completed participation in vocational rehabilitation, receipt of REHAB benefits, reaching the maximum duration of sickness benefit entitlement, or acceptance of a distant workplace. The funding period generally extends over 12 months and can be extended up to 36 months under certain criteria such as a reduction in earning capacity ≥ 50%, reaching the age of 59, or participation in REHAB measures. Through this continuous support, the combined wage subsidy makes an important contribution to increasing labor market participation and reducing unemployment in Austria.
