Description
The EU funding instrument Creative Europe – MEDIA (2021–2027) targets companies, public institutions, and associations in the European cultural and creative sector. Applicants from all EU member states as well as from accession, EEA, Switzerland, and neighborhood policy countries can apply for grants for audiovisual projects in the film and media industry within the framework of thematic calls. The aim of the funding is to promote talent and strengthen professional skills, support the cross-border distribution of European works, and actively engage audiences of all age groups. A demonstrable activity in the cultural and creative sector and a registered office in the eligible area are prerequisites. Deadlines, funding conditions, and the scope of funds are announced in the EU call portal.
Funding is provided particularly for measures related to the development and production of audiovisual content as well as innovative business models for distribution at national and international levels. Another focus lies on awareness-raising strategies that place cultural heritage at the center, and on audience development activities. Furthermore, the program supports cross-sectoral and cross-country cooperation: it promotes political exchange formats for social inclusion, tests new digital distribution channels, and accompanies adaptation processes to technological change dynamics. Project leaders benefit from networking through Creative Europe Desk MEDIA offices and from funding precisely tailored to the type of proposed initiative.
