Description
The teaching practice funding from the Federal Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection supports the mandatory training phase of rotating physicians in the field of general medicine in Vienna with a subsidy of 65% to 75% of personnel costs. The funding applies to public institutions and companies that train prospective physicians as teaching practice holders or hospital operators. Funding applications can be submitted via a web portal of the State Medical Association at least two months before the start of training. Only personnel expenses such as base salaries, special payments, and ancillary wage costs are funded – material, travel, or other salary components are excluded. Project-specific costs are settled semi-annually; settlements are possible until December 31, 2028. Eligible are rotating physicians at the end of their basic training to become general practitioners, provided that no prior federal funding existed according to § 4 para. 4 ÄrzteG 1998.
The program aims at comprehensive primary care by general practitioners and contributes to compensating capacity bottlenecks caused by retirements. The maximum project duration is nine months with weekly working hours corresponding to usual employment conditions. Eligibility for funding is measured by training success, timely settlement, and fulfillment of legal requirements. Rotating physicians and practice holders submit training certificates and personnel cost overviews (“Appendix A” and “Appendix B”) along with the funding application (“Appendix 1” or “Appendix 2”). The State Medical Association reviews and confirms the funding applications; an award letter is sent before the start of training. Subsidy amounts are paid quarterly in advance and disbursed to the respective teaching practice holders after completion of the respective funding period.
