Description
The LOEWE program (State Offensive for the Development of Scientific-Economic Excellence) is the Hessian flagship research instrument for supporting outstanding research and innovation projects. Funding is provided, among other things, for the establishment of new centers and focal points at Hessian universities as well as interdisciplinary collaborative projects between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and research institutions. Furthermore, the initiative offers the opportunity to establish W3 professorships for renowned scientists and to test high-risk, novel research approaches within the framework of LOEWE Exploration. The project sponsor is the Hessian Ministry of Science and the Arts, which announces calls for proposals annually. Applications for LOEWE professorships can be submitted at any time.
Funding is provided as a grant with a funding rate of 50% to 100%, whereby a co-financing contribution is required from commercial enterprises. The evaluation criteria include scientific excellence, innovation potential, degree of cooperation, and economic viability. Eligible to apply are Hessian universities and research institutions, SMEs in cooperation with universities or research institutions, as well as doctoral scientists at Hessian universities for Exploration. A prerequisite is a location in Hesse and affiliation with one of the five LOEWE funding lines. Interested institutions and researchers are invited to a competitive review process organized in the annual funding rounds.
