Description
The initiative "Measures to Increase the Use of the Raw Material Wood" of the Austrian Wood Initiative supports stakeholders in Vienna in placing wood as a sustainable resource even more prominently in focus. The goal is to establish the renewable wood resource as a contribution to solving ecological, social, and economic challenges. Innovative projects along the entire value chain are funded – from governance and research through timber construction to education, communication, and awareness-raising. With a funding rate of 100%, the grant covers personnel expenses, external services (planning, consulting), material and travel costs, construction measures, as well as communication activities. Prerequisites include the use of wood from sustainable forestry, compliance with the criteria of the Forest Fund Act, and a minimum size of 400 m² net floor area for residential buildings (two above-ground floors) or 200 m² for public buildings. Evaluation is based on innovation potential, sustainability aspects, climate protection relevance, and a holistic approach.
Eligible for funding are private individuals, companies, non-profit organizations, public institutions, and start-ups based in Austria that wish to exploit the innovation potential of wood projects. Submissions are possible until January 31, 2027, with implementation having started from February 1, 2021. Disbursement of funds may take place until July 31, 2032. Applications must be submitted together with the project description, application form, cost breakdown (Form F4), company or association register excerpt, proof of sustainable management, as well as CVs and financial statements for the last two fiscal years. This program creates a pioneering contribution to climate protection, establishing wood as a forward-looking building material and promoting its societal acceptance.
