Description
The funding program supports the financing of travel expenses for school classes and cross-class student groups from Salzburg and Vienna for guided visits to the Mauthausen and Gusen concentration camp memorials, as well as the Ebensee and Melk subcamps. With a one-time grant of up to €500 (or €250 per class for shorter distances), the initiative contributes to strengthening the culture of remembrance and deepening the mandatory engagement with National Socialism and the Holocaust in the subjects of History and Political Education in a practical manner. The funding is designed as a direct grant and can be applied for until December 31, 2026 – always prior to the planned visit date.
Eligible to apply are public schools with legally regulated school type designations (e.g., according to the School Organization Act, Federal School Act for Agriculture and Forestry, Forestry Act, vocational and technical schools, as well as statutory schools) and their legal guardians or legally independent students, represented by the school event management. Compliance with the provisions of the Memorial Site Act (Federal Law Gazette I No. 74/2016) and the special directive of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) on mobility funding is a prerequisite. To submit an application, the online form with the school identification number (SKZ), the receipt or a stamped booking confirmation from the memorial site, a school confirmation, and a class list (each according to the provided template) are required. Through this targeted funding, teaching and learning processes are sustainably enriched and a vivid historical awareness is strengthened.
