Description
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is an initiative of the Foundation of the Housing Cooperative of 1904, which supports projects in Hamburg that sustainably promote neighborhood cohesion. With a steadily growing foundation capital currently amounting to 1,000,000 euros, charitable projects are funded that are implemented in the districts where the foundation owns apartments. The funding program places a special emphasis on measures to combat loneliness and poverty by specifically supporting leisure, care, and event offerings for seniors, children, and youth. Furthermore, the funding can also strengthen intercultural understanding and promote international understanding. The grant enables projects that often have no access to public funds, thereby closing an important gap in the municipal funding landscape.
The selection criteria require that the projects are concretely located within the foundation’s areas of influence and are distinguished by their promotion of social cohesion. Eligible projects are those that actively contribute to strengthening community spirit in the neighborhood, especially through assistance for older people, children, and youth. Additionally, initiatives that foster intercultural dialogue and exchange between different population groups are supported. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, allowing interested charitable organizations to submit their innovative project ideas and implement them promptly with the foundation’s financial support. Careful documentation, including accounting and a final report, ensures the sustainable impact of the funded measures in Hamburg. Through this funding measure, a significant contribution is made to improving social life in the affected districts, which in the long term strengthens the cohesion and quality of life of the residents.
