Description

The practice-oriented environmental education program “Naturzeit” supports educational institutions based in Hamburg in intensively introducing primary school classes from the 2nd grade onwards to the nature close to their school during the second half of the school year. Over a period of twelve months, 14 sessions are integrated into the regular timetable to enable children to experience the natural habitat with all their senses. Under the expert guidance of environmentally trained project leaders, participants explore plant and animal life, conduct outdoor experiments, and develop a personal connection to the ecological environment. Through varied methods, independence, curiosity, and practical learning are emphasized – from gardening projects to observation exercises in the classroom under the open sky.

The program is funded in the form of a grant amounting to €2,700 per class for the period from February to January of the following year. Eligible to apply are schools and other educational institutions in Hamburg that are interested in the long-term integration of environmental education into their teaching. Eligible costs include fees for project leaders, material expenses such as consumables or public relations, as well as travel costs for excursions. Since applications can be submitted continuously, interested parties may apply at any time and actively support their students on the path to a deeper understanding of nature.
